Madenokoji Hirofusa (万里小路博房)

Hirofusa MADENOKOJI (July 21, 1824 - February 22, 1884) was a Kugyo (court noble) from the late Edo Period to the Meiji Period.

Biography

His father was Naofusa MADENOKOJI and his mother was a daughter of Kanchu FUJINAMI. His lawful wife was Sadako, the eleventh daughter of Nagayoshi MORI. His children were Michifusa MADENOKOJI, Hironao SEKI, Kintomo ANEKOJI, Hironaga KAWABE and Chiyoko (a wife of Yoshimitsu URAMATSU).

In 1826, Hirofusa was conferred a peerage, and he was appointed to Jugoinoge (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade) in 1833 after he had his coming of age ceremony. After several promotions, in 1867, Hirofusa was appointed to Shoshiinoge Kurodo no To (Senior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade, Head Chamberlain). On November 29 the same year, he was appointed to Sangi (Councilor) and attended Kogosho Conference (the meeting held in the presence of the Emperor in the Kogosho Conference Room of Kyoto Imperial Palace) held on January 3, 1868. At the conference, he was appointed to Sanyo (Councilor) and remained in the post until March 12, 1868.

In 1868, he was appointed to Jusanmi Gon Chunagon (Junior Third Rank, Provisional Vice-councilor of State). Later, Hirofusa worked as Kyoto Court Director General (one of the Japanese municipal system), Kotaigogushoku (Imperial Household Agency employee assigned to the household of Queen Mother) of Imperial Household Ministry in the early Meiji Period before the new cabinet system was introduced, and so forth. Hirofusa died at the age of 61 in 1884.

On July 7, about five months after Hirofusa's death, his son, Michifusa, was conferred count; the Madenokoji family joined the peerage.
